SafeZone Train the Trainer Part I

  • El Centro 2800 Pearl Ave Lorain, OH, 44035 United States (map)

This is a training for those interested in becoming a certified SafeZone trainer and hosting training sessions throughout the year on behalf of LGBTQ+ Lorain County. The total training is 6 hours long and will be held on January 19 and January 20 from 4-7pm each day.

The training will be held in person at El Centro - 2800 Pearl Ave, Lorain, OH 44055. Masks will be required throughout the entire training. Rainbow masks will be provided for anyone who needs one. Attendees are welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks for the training.

What is SafeZone training?

An opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examine prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. The training will also give you a better awareness and understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and how to be an effective ally. It is also a safe place to ask questions and get resources for further education.

What is expected of a SafeZone trainer?

Trainers are asked to implement the SafeZone program through LGBTQ+ Lorain County only. Trainers will not be allowed to hold their own SafeZone program without the approval of LGBTQ+ Lorain County. To be a successful trainer, individuals need to have “passed” the 6 hour training course, are asked to host approximately 3 SafeZone programs in 2022, and maintain regular communications with LGBTQ+ Lorain County.

What is the cost?

The Train the Trainer session is provided free of charge. Those who pass the course and host SafeZone trainings on behalf of the organization will be compensated at a rate of $100 per 3 hour training.

Trainers are not expected to coordinate the logistics surrounding training as that will be handled by LGBTQ+ Lorain County staff. Training opportunities will be presented to certified trainers who can sign up to provide the trainings based on their availability. Trainers will be compensated as 1099 contractors of LGBTQ+ Lorain County.
