Allyship 101 Conference

  • Avon Library 37485 Harvest Drive Avon, OH, 44011 United States (map)

LGBTQ+ Lorain County is pleased to offer Allyship 101, a free half day conference designed for those who would like to learn about supportive allyship for the LGBTQ+ community, including LGBTQ+ youth. The presentation will also include information about current legislation affecting the LGBTQ+ community in Ohio.

Allyship 101 is an opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender identity and expression, and examine prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. It is a safe space to ask questions and get resources for further education.

While many of us want to promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity and serve as a participatory ally, we don’t necessarily feel comfortable with the language, with our own level of understanding, and don’t know where to go to learn more. This training is designed to deepen attendees' understanding of LGBTQ+ identities and issues faced by members of this marginalized community.

Attending the conference will help create deeper familiarity and comfort with vocabulary, inclusive practices, and privilege to help individuals identify ways to provide a more safe and inclusive space for their LGBTQ+ identified loved ones, children, parents, friends, family members, coworkers, and others we interact with in our day to day lives.

Lunch will be provided as well as time to connect with other attendees participating in the conference.

There is no cost to attend, but please consider donating what you can to support the mission of LGBTQ+ Lorain County! Registration in advance is required as space is limited.

If you have questions about this training, please contact Megan Baechle, Executive Administrative Director, at director@lgbtqloraincounty.org.
